i hate it when people say that. the eap is free, as in no-3.0-license-required. many companies have a freeze on spendings like this, and a lot of developers are buying it personally. but you can't blame them if they wait for a personal license (if it ever appears again).
the release however is not free and the next post-release period (with no EAP) will surely do its job...

Whilst I have a certain amount of sympathy for your position, it should be noted that an Idea License doesnt really cost all that much. My company now uses Idea across most of our project teams, but initially I had to buy my own licence and then convince the company that it was worth it before they bought licenses for our teams. I dont regret my decision to pre-empt my organisation because I felt then and still feel now that Intellij is a quality tool. I use the EAP versions with my own valid licence because I enjoy the opportunity to comment on and provide some feedback that might help the Intellij team create an even better product for me. I'm not always the most active person on the forums, but I know that as a paying customer the folks at Intellij have always taken anything I have to say seriously. They are an extremely professional but down to earth bunch of people, and as a customer I'm more than pleased with the way they have dealt with me.
I would suggest that that if you are using EAP on real projects ( and having an expired EAP key stops u from working) then I dont think id be alone in stating that it would be at least fair to buy at least one real licence. Ultimatly the best way to support this tool is to buy it, if people dont buy licences for it then all the best suggestions in the world arent going to help this company remain viable, and that would be tragic.
I won't repeat that - EAP is not for evaluation; evaluation licenses are. - if you like the tool, support it by buying it.
But... How can you help the EAP process if you don't master IDEA? How can you master IDEA if you haven't been using it for a few months at least? How have you been using IDEA for months without a license?

True, and I realise that untill late year I was also a freeloading EAPer ( was a die hard JEdit'er ).

Alain, you're missing the point. EAP is free because JetBrains decided it's more beneficial to them that way, the more feedback the better. and posts like 'use you 3.0 license' can only have the opposite effect, cool off someone's enthusiasm and all desire to post bugs and participate in discussions.
But... How can you help the EAP process if you don't master IDEA? How can you master IDEA if you haven't been using it for a few months at

How have you been using IDEA for months without a license?
access denied.
as i mentioned before, there is a good catch built into eap, which makes it a far better tool than evaluation. for 14 days i can try something, but i'll never get used to it. after 8 months it may be extremely difficult to give it up.
Just use your 3.0 license key.
+1, you're not alone...
I have the same problem.
Thanks....
