Value of 815

Given all the (somewhat valid) "hurry up and release" comments, are you guys satisfied with 815? (hint: even a basic operation like opening a project is broken.)

I have been using 815 all day with no problems. I do not like the new
L&F, as well voiced by Thomas among others. I do like the various
tweaks, and Ctrl-Shift-F7 exceptions support.

I think Jetbrains did a good job of warning us what was broken, but some
people have not listened.

The new project view is in its first build, so not surprised there is
some confusion around that.

Overall, good job to Jetbrains. Keep it up!

Peter

PS I did note in the File Types dialog that there is now an entry for
"UI Designer Form"... very excited for that!

Oh, I forgot to mention my favorite new feature -- Ctrl-Q using External
JavaDoc!!!

Yeah!

I'm extremely happy about it. I have been using it constantly since the
release, and although there have been a few nagging crashes, its nice to
have an update since its been a few weeks.

Quite happy. I used it all day and didn't have any major problems with it.
It's one of the usable builds for me.

Agreed, been using it most of the day and it's looking pretty good.

Yup same here. Still trying to figure out this module thing, but I see another thread about it which I need to go read.

Just installed it and setup my jdk, yet Idea 815 doesn't want to find
String, Integer, or anything :(

Weird... Care to elaborate?

Been using it a little (will do more testing tomorrow)...
Been confused by the new module stuff which I guess everyone needs to get accustomed to (and I'm sure it will improve if the current thread discussing it is any indication).

Now waiting for the twice-a-week release schedule to iron out the problems and introduce new great features (UI builder, AspectJ support, generics support)! _

Keep up the good work guys!

Was strange - but after I quit and restarted it was fine.

I am at my second clean install and I still could not get 815 to parse the jdk jars. I stopped after that because I needed to get some work done. I won't rest though until I get it to work ;)

Fairly happy with it. A bit flakey in places, but on the whole ....

Now that I know what's going on, the new project module structure is a great improvement.

Personally, I wasn't really bothered with the long-ish gap between releases; but I was a little dismayed to see that they were releasing with broken functionality, that had been previously working; I hope that this wasn't due to the pressure they were under to get the release out. I think it's much more important to get stuff that's actually testable and reasonably safe, and if that means a long delay between EAP releases, then that's fine by me.

With any luck, the progress reports will take some of the pressure off. I reckon folk are generally happy to wait, as long they know what's going on.

If you change project JDK to "none", press Apply and then select some JDK
and press OK, it should help.

Sorry Eugene but I have done all that up to restarting between removing the jdk from the project.
I even tried removing the jdk from the project, deleting the jdk from the list, shutting down, cleaning the jdk.table.xml under config, removing everything under system, then restarting and recreating the jdk. Still when I recreate the jdk and add it to the project, IDEA won't reparse it and all core java classes are not recognize in the editor.
Somehow I must be doing something wrong. I have done too many things that I just must start from scratch another time and control my frentic experiment ;)

We will make the next build early next week, so I guess you will have to
wait until then.
