Splash Screen
Hi guys,
You know that I'm a huge fan of IDEA, and am very greatful for all the hard work and effort you put in both developing it, and discussing it on this and other forums. But...
About the new splash screen...
It sucks.
This isn't a knee-jerk reaction to change. It really does suck. I was showing the latest build to a client on Friday, and I found myself opening notepad over the top of IDEA so that they wouldn't see the new splash-screen. It's an embarrasement.
It looks like it was done by a 12 year old kid with a copy of a 3d editor off a magazine coverdisk.
Further, I'm British - I suspect a lot of your users are. Nationally we have a fondness for this ancient monument. Your poor treatment of is little unkind. In the current economic climate you may want to consider do everything possible to bolster your image.
Cheers,
Bryan

Don't you think you are a luttle over reacting? I think the Splash Screen is not that bad. Of course the da Vinci model has something more inovative but who cares? Who cares about the splash screen anyway?? It's the product that counts or are you buying WindowsXP just because of the "cool" new logo?

It's Sunday! Why are you so bad tempered?
I really like the new splash screen. The Da Vinci image became boring. This one is new and fresh. It has some sort of vitality and energy in it that is also expressed in the fonts for the name of the product.
I don't know what hyper talented children you have around you, but those 12 year olds I know wouldn't make such a splash screen even if you gave them the newest 3D Studio.
I enjoy seeing the splash screen each time I startup IDEA.
+1 I like the new screen as well.
I think the old splash screen was better too, but the new one isnt horrible, it doesnt have the gloss the old one had.
bloody whingeing poms in kiwi-land!
I liked the old splash coz of the symbolism to innovation, da vinci's great mind etc. I like the Stonehenge screen coz it's fresh and new. I had to work to find the symbolism, but I guess it's that Idea, like Stonehenge, is mystical and esoteric in its abilities. In either event, it's definitely not worth a forum post saying the splash screen really sucks.
Exactly the same feeling. I like most of the new artwork (button images, etc.) in Ariadna, but the new splash really sucks imho. I particularly dislike the glossy "chrome" 3D presentation of the ancient monument.
I'm British too and I must admit that I did like the da Vinci "chopper" a little better but I might grow to like Stonehenge once I've got used to it.
I have to comment on the WindozXP though, the splash screen is probably the only good reason there is to buy XP. :)

It looked OK to me. I didn't give it any thought except that it still doesn't include a little build number in the corner, which would be nice.
Vince.
go and get an IDE with a splash-screen you like eg
my opinion: it's cool, and if i wouldn't like it, i wouldn't lose a word 'bout it
I liked the old one better, the new splash screen is nothing special IMHO. Of course, it's not like I'm going to stare at it all day.
Guys, Bryan Dollery is NOT speaking for New Zealand! :)
I live in New Zealand and I love the new splash. In fact, I've actually called people over to my desk to show it off.
how about getting an option to disable the splash screen, so those that like it can have it enabled, and those that dislike it can have it disabled.
I agree. I think the new splash and new font effects for the title are much less refined and prefessional looking. I've employed a workaround though. I printed a snapshop of the old splash screen, and I tape that to the moniter while the IDE is coming up.
