opening .java files

Hi,

I am a newbie to IntelliJ so i have a trivial question.
If i try to right-click on a .java file and ask it to be opened with the LaunchAnywhere GUI Application the GUI pops up but the file does not open up.
Does InteliJ require java files to be included inside a project always to open them up?
