Shortcut for showing and hiding whitespace display

Sometimes I quickly need to see the leading or trailing whitespace in a file. In PHPStorm i always have to open a separate preference window for this, click on the "Appearance" section, mark the checkboxes, click on "OK" to save the preferences. Sometimes I'm so annoyed by this multi-step process that I open the file in a separate editor that supports easier whitespace display toggling. Is there any easier solution I have overlooked?

Have you tried looking at "View" menu? "View | Active Editor" in particular?

Shortcuts can be managed at "Settings/Preferences | Keymap"
P.P.S.
"Help | Find Action..." (or even "Search Everywhere" functionality) -- search for "whitespace" -- you can toggle settings directly in this list
