pycharm freezes immediately

 I downloaded pycharm on mac osx el capitan operating system.  It froze as soon as I opened up a project.  I couldn't type anything, and I couldn't force close pycharm.  I had to force shutdown my computer, because it wouldn't restart with pycharm open.  I deleted pycharm and downloaded the latest version, and the same thing happened.  I removed all unused plugins and the same thing happened.  I have intellij and webstorm on my computer, and they work fine.  pycharm is the first app that I have downloaded on my computer to do this.
