Is there a lightweight version of PHPStorm supporting PHP 8?
I am using PHPStorm 2018.2 and am super happy with it. Unfortunately, it doesn't have PHP 8 support.
PHPStorm 2018.2 uses 600 MB memory. A friend is using a newer version (2024.1), this one uses 3.5 GB and is significantly slower.
I love PHPStorm, but have stopped updating it, because each new version adds more features I personally don't need and uses more RAM and CPU.
Is there a lightweight version with PHP8 support?
(Disabling Plugins does not have a noticeable effect.)

I have upgraded to the latest PHPStorm (2024.3) in the meantime and while it indeed uses 4x as much memory (actually only slightly more than a browser these days, ~3.5 GB), it seems to be about as fast as the 2018.2 version on my computer.
Since features get added all the time and my usage of features remains fairly similar, I still wonder if you have or are planning to have a slim version.

Unfortunately, there is no “Lite” version of PhpStorm for now.
Please submit a feature request on YouTrack and describe what exactly you would like to see in such a version - what should be kept and what should be omitted.

Hello, I also have just upgraded from PHPStorm 2023 to 2024.3 and it seems that it uses a lot more memory. I have a Macbook Air M2 and previously It was possible to have even 4 windows of PHP Storm opened and it was run smoothly without any trouble. After upgrading to 2024.3 even a single window of PHP Storm uses up to 4GB of ram. Isn't there any ussue with memory usage?
