Unable to create new project -- "Name:" field is missing from the dialog

I'm teaching an intro Python course, and several of my students (5 out of about 20 so far) are having an issue after installing PyCharm Community 2024.3.1.1 and trying to create a new project.

On the new project dialog, the field labeled “Name:" is missing.

In the drop down named “Python version:” there is nothing listed; normally, this is populated with a list of options that can be downloaded if there is no system Python installation detected.

In the bottom left corner of the dialog, there is a small lightning bolt icon with the text “Please wait…”

This has occurred for students on both MacOS and Windows (screenshots below with usernames redacted).

I've never seen this before. I've been unable to duplicate on virtual machines. Am I missing something obvious here?
