Where is the modal commit UI gone? 😱😱😱

After updating to latest EAP (#IU-251.20015.29) I got the separate commit tool window that I hate so much.
I did not notice anything in the release notes regarding this, so I still have a glimmer of hope that this is a bug.
Also, the settings seem to have changed massively. Now there is a gigantic list of miscellaneous “Advanced Settings” in a separate tab, instead of being nicely sorted where they belong.
I found this one, but all it does is move the non-modal UI to the “Git toolwindow”.

I want my modal UI back! Pleeeeeeaaaaaase

Hi please see: https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/IJPL-177161/Modal-commit-interface-cannot-be-activated-in-IntelliJ-IDEA-2025.1-EAP4
There will be more updates soon.
Thanks for the answer!
With the option to toggle the "Commit"-Controls", I can get close to the original UI.
I'll try and get used to it.
All in all, I still think it is a step backwards in terms of usability and productivity.
That's a very annoying (and stupid) decision !
Agreed. Non modal commit makes it behave like VSCode which i chose intellij a long time ago specifically because I hate most everything about VSCode especially the git interface.
Things like this are making it harder and harder to justify the subscription when it's essentially just becoming VSCode with slightly better intellisense (depending on the framework).
Listen to your users and give us back the things we actually want. I Don't think most people like the ‘new UI’ in general and know many who canceled their subscriptions since.
At this point what really sets it apart from VSCode?
I feel every major update in the last few years I had to first fix whatever cockamamie changes you made to the commit screen. Again today: I updated to the latest PHPStorm and all of the sudden the commit modal just doesn't show file diffs anymore. There's not even the option anywhere to show it in the model. Why would you just remove it?
I like my commit window as a near-full screen modal, showing all staged files and allowing to select even single changes per file, so I can type relevant commit messages since I can see exactly what each commit contains. It's hard to imagine a scenario where I would want to type commit messages without seeing any diffs.
I'm fully open to exploring a new feature or improvements, but can you please make that optional instead of just forcing it on the people that have been long-time users?
