Inappropriate prompt asking if you want to agree to the Detailed Data Collection
Hello everyone,
I pay for the Intellij Idea Ultimate Edition and for the AI Pro subscription. When I wanted to automatically generate a commit message with the AI Assistant, a prompt popped up asking me if I would agree to the “Detailed data collection”.
I find this prompt extremely inappropriate during the workflow. I pay for the products to be able to work undisturbed and not be tempted to quickly click on “OK” to continue.
Many users tend to quickly confirm prompts without reading the content in detail. I therefore have the feeling that this type of prompt was chosen in order to get many confirmations for data sharing.
I think this behavior is very questionable. Especially for a product that you pay for.
I therefore hope that this behavior will be switched off in the future, as I have
have always been very satisfied with Jetbrains' products and do not expect such practices from Jetbrains.
PS:
If you want to encourage more users to activate data sharing, you should
simply offer users a discount of 5-10% on the AI subscription if they have activated data sharing.

Hello,
We’d like to clarify a few points regarding the "Detailed Data Collection" pop-up in the JetBrains AI Assistant.
Enabling this feature is completely optional and can be turned on or off at any time via:
Tools | AI Assistant | Data Sharing | Allow detailed data collection
If enabled, the data is used only by JetBrains teams directly involved in the development and integration of our large language models. It is never shared with third parties and is securely stored for a maximum of 30 days.
We understand that this prompt may have caused some confusion, and we’re sorry for any concern it raised. Please rest assured—JetBrains has no intention of misleading users into accepting it.
You can find more details in our official policy here:
