Phpstorm freezing non stop

Phpstorm in the last few days have started to freeze almost every time I start it. The times it doesn't freeze it's very laggy. 

I tried updating it (to 2025.3), tried reinstalling, clearing cache, increasing memory heap size and nothing seems to work.

I tried the preview version and I can confirm, that the bug is fixed. I am using it for now until I can switch back to the stable versions.

Hi

I am having issue with all 2025.3+ versions being stuck at loading screen. Now the latest version 2025.3.2 program window opens, loading circle is spinning, but nothing is responsive, then shows popup about selecting/disabling conficting plugins (which i dont have and at 2025.2.6 everything works fine), which is not responsive at all.

For the past month I have been suffering from these constant 1-5 second freezes, despite having a decent Core Ultra 7 258V processor.

And I seem to have found a solution by disabling the AI/ML plugins. I don't know yet which one is causing the problem, but you can check it yourself. I personally use the Claude Code plugin and it works great.

After several years of using PhpStorm without problem, from today it (version 2025.3.3) keeps freezing just after starting, even after reboot (Windows 10 Enterprise). I tried to start with opening another project, but it did not help. Starting with a local admin it works, I upgraded to version 2025.3.4, but after this, with my normal user still the same freezing continues. How can I make it work?

Hi Anastasiia Zyrianova,

Since PHPStorm 2025.3.2 and now on PHPStorm 2026.1 the IDE is constantly freezing. It's getting pretty annoying since I have to stop working every 10min.

Do you have any tips or solution to solve this please ?

I already have disabled the Package Checker plugin as I read that on the previous comments but it didn't solved anything.

Unfortunately, it is hard to troubleshoot freezes without logs/CPU snapshots as there could be plenty of reasons.

Would it be possible to collect logs and submit a support ticket or a YouTrack report?

I’m actually seeing very similar behavior with PhpStorm lately, and I have the same question. In my case it started happening out of nowhere as well long freezes during startup, occasional UI hangs, and generally sluggish performance even after clearing caches and updating. It’s especially frustrating when the usual fixes like increasing the heap size or reinstalling don’t make any noticeable difference.

I also have the same question about what might be causing it. Since you’ve already tried most of the standard troubleshooting steps, I’m wondering if it could be related to a recent plugin update, indexing issue, antivirus interaction, or something introduced in a recent PhpStorm build. Hopefully someone from JetBrains can take a look at the logs and point to a specific cause, because it definitely sounds like more than just a cache or memory problem.

There can't be a “universal” solution here, unfortunately. Almost every performance-related case should be investigated separately.

To help us define the root cause, please submit a request via Help > Contact Support or here https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/newIssue?project=WI and share the IDE logs from Help | Collect Logs and Diagnostic Data as a starting point.
