File rename ignores AJAX calls

When I right-click on a file used as an AJAX endpoint and choose Rename or Refactor→Rename, even if both "Search for references" and "Search in comments and strings" checkboxes are checked, it doesn't find any of the calls to that file. It only finds a couple obscure mentions in comments. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Surely I don't have to always remember to do a global search/replace after any rename. I feel like I'm missing something.
