Updates and re-installs need improvement

已回答

So for the longest time when I used to do Check for Updates and keeping my fingers crossed, (I was on 2017..) I would get a meh update for same year. I would ignore and move on. Today I finally decided to update as I could not get JShell to work, and lo and behold, AFTER the 2017 update, it tells me hey you have another update...so I said WTH and it updated me to 2018 finally. Yay.

But why is this update logic as warped as Firefox which used to do exactly the same thing - tell me I had no updates when there were in fact major updates, downloadable, just not coming up when checking for updates!

Quite frustrating and wasted my time and effort

And then on my Win 8 box although I clearly said do NOT remove settings, it anyway did it now I have to re-do everything :( - Might be user-error, I dont know.

On Win 7 it worked fine.

Also, when the default settings are too much and I hate having to go through each one of those screens.

After installing, importing settings NEVER works on any OS, and this has been an issue for very long.

And what is this - blank nothings...I tried importing a gradle project which was non-gradle, and when I imported one that WAS gradle, IDE just hung up on SAME screen I pasted ???!! Had to import as non-gradle.

My fears of JB rushing new versions of the IDE out the door without much regression in QA are on the increase..

I'm really sorry for such an experience.

Updates policy is configured in File | Settings | Appearance & Behavior | System Settings | Updates settongs. What do you have set there? Note that you can add a certain update to an ignore list.

Also if you are using ToolboxApp the update policy is configured in Toolbox for each major IDE version:

Can you elaborate? At what point and what settings were removed?

Please clarify the settings that do not transfer. Also clarify the method which which you transfer the settings: e.g. by selecting to import from previous IDE settings location when installtin new version, or you use IDE settings sych plugin or Settings Repository: https://www.jetbrains.com/help/idea/sharing-your-ide-settings.html#settings-repository

Could you attach all logs zipped. For the investigation can you please tell the time when the issue has happened. Or if ti is reproducible attach all logs after it happens: https://intellij-support.jetbrains.com/hc/en-us/articles/207241085. Thank you.
