Elena Pogorelova, thanks. Indeed, the "Highlight modified lines in error stripe on the scrollbar" checkbox there allows to disable the "right gutter".
One more question though: is it possible to modify the colors that are use in the "error stripe on the scrollbar"?
The closest setting I found is Settings | Editor | Color Scheme | VCS . It allow to control the left gutter colors (for example via "Editor gutter -> Modified lines -> Background") but the "Error stripe mark" checkbox is just disabled.
Try disabling Highlight modified lines in gutter in Settings | Editor | General

You can modify the stripe marks colors in Settings | Editor | Color Scheme | Diff & Merge
