As I understand you want a popup where you can see the list of currently opened files (only) and be able to search there?
Will Switcher do the job (Ctrl+Tab)? It does not really have a search/filtering ... just navigating or certain keys for tool windows.
Other than that: maybe "View | Recent Files" will be of any help? That's what is usually used in such case.
I'm not sure if such "List of currently opened files" popup exists. I do remember others talking about such stuff .. but that was long time ago (3 or 4 years) and I cannot find that thread or ticket right now...
From time to time I work with a lot of opened files (tabs), so it's sometimes hard to find the one you're looking for. A handy solution for me would be an option like in Database box where you can just type something and tables with matching string are highlighted. I found the Switcher but I can't search anything inside that window, so it doesn't help me much.
For me It should be an option to use "search for" inside Switcher or something like that.
I can of course use search for file (ctrl + shift + N), but it not always fits my needs.
Switcher is meant for quick switching between files (just like Alt+Tab on Windows). You may keep pressing Tab while holding Ctrl to navigate to next entry. But that's the best that you will get with Switcher.
"View | Recent Files" is the most close in this regard that will allow searching -- try it, even if not all opened files are listed there.
Otherwise -- look at plugins. Perhaps TabSwitch will do (have not tried it myself).
Thank you for your help. I've checked two "tabs" plugins but it seems that they don't work anymore correctly. I'll add feature request. Typing something in Switcher (just like in Recent Files) while holding Ctrl would be the best solution for me.
The recent file dialog is better than Switcher in every way, thanks so much for the pointer. I remapped my "switcher" key to "recent files". Substring search in that dialog is fantastic.
