Change Scratches directory, and move it to its own tool window?

I'm not seeing how to do either of these things... I use Scratches for notes and formatting (because PHPStorm is just flat-out the best text editor on Mac), but the directory saves to /Users/dave/Library/Preferences/PhpStorm2018.3/scratches, which is not easily accessible for other developers (and not easily noticed if I'm replaced) and not visible in Finder when trying to attach a file in email.

With the section itself, I'd like it to be in its own little collapsible tab to the left like Structure and Favorites, so I don't have to do so much scrolling along with Project files, but I'm not seeing how to do that either.

Unfortunately, there is no way to specify a custom directory for scratch files, here is the similar request on YouTrack:

https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/IDEA-183154

As some sort of a workaround, you can change the location for whole config directory which is a parent for scratches:

https://intellij-support.jetbrains.com/hc/en-us/articles/207240985-Changing-IDE-default-directories-used-for-config-plugins-and-caches-storage

What is about your second request, do I understand it correctly and you want a separate tab for scratches?

Thank you Vasiliy, I'll look into changing the config directory. That might be helpful when changing computers or developers or exporting/attaching/etc.

About my second request, yes I want a separate "tab" (whatever those are called there, tool window?) for Scratches at the bottom left like your screenshot... I did however determine to just add the Scratches folder or sub-folders to the Favorites tab in each project, which is generally more convenient. It would be nice to assign Scratches to the tab rather than be at the bottom of the Project tab (with the repo files/folders) just due to not having to scroll so much and lose my place each time.

Maybe this can or should be a request?

Yeah, you can submit this to our tracker at https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/newIssue

Hi Dave,

I was struggling with same problem that i have to scroll down in project pane in order to reach my scratches and consoles. I searched but couldn't found a feature request about this issue.
Did you open a ticket?

Btw, while i was searching if you have created a ticket about this issue, I found your workaround that adding scratches to favorites. Thanks for it. made my life much easier ;)

@mustafa - My solution was to just add the Scratches folder to Favorites; I'm honestly not sure if adding another tab would be useful or cumbersome.
