Opening projects from "Manage projects..." screen in the same frame

Hi, apologies if this question has been asked, I've been searching and can find similar questions but not the same.

I recently changed laptops and forgot to backup my settings.

Before, I had the "File -> Open Recent -> Manage projects..." option bound to a keyboard shortcut, that would bring up my recent projects list, pressing enter on the project I wanted would replace the project in the current frame with the one I had chosen. 

I cannot for the life of me remember whether I had to do something to make this work before or if it was by default. As a note, I have already tried enabling the "System Settings -> Open project in same window" option, this work when clicking "File -> Open Recent -> {Project Name}" but not from the "Manage projects..." dialogue, this always opens a new frame no matter what I try, which is not fun as when in full screen (MacOS Catalina) it doesn't actually display anything in the new frame until I take it out of full screen mode.
