Blank window when trying to import Gradle project

I'm trying to import the sample projects from the book Pro Spring 5, chapter 2. I go to import build.gradle or another gradle file listed there chapter02.gradle and all I get is a blank window with only an OK button showing. If I click the OK button, tells me that the gradle path was not specified. After clicking around a bunch, I found it's some type of graphical glitch on the gradle import window. See screenshots. Any fix for this? Version 2018.1.8
