Randomly can't switch to other open project window, randomly project opens to blank view

This started happening since the last update... I typically have 2 project windows open (as I need to flip between them often), but randomly, typically at least once a day, using Cmd+` to flip between windows just will not flip to the other window. Then sometimes opening up a project in a new window just opens into a blank view:

This and the seeming increase in bugs from the recent updates is driving me crazy. Clicking the red button will not close the view. I have to close the whole app and start over.

I don't need to be adding new hoops to jump through in my editor to just do my job. Please someone confirm if this is happening to them or let me know if there's already a bug filed for it or what I'm supposed to do.
