The AppCode Community Forum Is Deprecated
TL; DR. We’ve decided to close the community forum starting March 31, 2020. We will keep all existing threads and comments, but no new threads or comments will be accepted after that date.
Our initial intention was for this forum to be a place where the community could help create a knowledge base about all things AppCode. However, over the years, most of the posts have amounted to bug reports or feature requests, much resembling a bug tracker. This has led to the following:
- Helping with an issue usually requires asking the OP to create a ticket in our bug tracker, YouTrack. The forum doesn’t allow for attaching any artifacts, and keeping track of notifications both on the forum and in the tracker is cumbersome.
- Discussion threads tend to veer off topic very quickly because the forum format does not require the OP or the commenters to specify very much information about the issue (which is already difficult because logs cannot be attached).
- Because of some issues with YouTrack visibility in Google search, the top search results have typically led to the forum instead of the bug tracker. This has encouraged people to report their issues here instead of / before doing so in YouTrack. As a result, users watching tickets in our tracker could be unaware of duplicate existing tickets in forum discussions, and this would lead to even more issue duplicates being created and increasing the burden on our support team.
- As a bug tracker, YouTrack provides the same capabilities as this forum plus many others that are more specific for handling feature requests and bug reports.
By addressing these issues, deprecating the forum will allow us to optimize the load of our support and QA division and more efficiently respond to your concerns. We think it would be easier for everyone to have a single “source of truth” when discussing problems and feature requests, and we’ve decided that this source will be YouTrack.
After the forum is deprecated, here’s what we suggest:
- To submit a feature request or a bug report, please use our tracker.
- If you need to discuss an issue you are experiencing directly with our support team, please submit it here.
- If you’d like to discuss anything else with us, we are always listening on Twitter, on the blog, and in Slack:
- #appcode-users in RxSwift (English)
- #jetbrains in Cocoa Developers Club (Russian)
