2020.1 update breaks font and Material theme?

as the issue also occurs when using old versions, it doesn't seem to be related to IDE update, rather a problem with your screen resolution, etc. You could try playing with editor font in File | Settings | Editor | Font to see if it makes things any better

That happend right after I updated Webstorm and opened new version (less than a minute I guess), without any reboots, etc. My resolution is standard (full HD). There only two options in Font menu: size and line spacing. That doesnt change font height.

Finally I used Windows Restore and went few days back, so font now works good again. I will stay on old version 2019.3.1 for sure and avoid new update.

This is not first time when new updates breaks something.. :(

Елена, я пытаюсь до вас донести, что судя по всему, шрифт, который теперь поставляется в новой версии 2020.1 и тот, который можно скачать с сайта по ссылке "Скачайте шрифт" - отображаются некорректно в Windows 10, они растягиваются по вертикали. При установке апдейта шрифты перетирают то, что до этого стояло в системе. Именно этим можно объяснить то, что в старых версиях IDE шрифт так же стал отображаться некорректно - источник то один и тот же.

Я специально приложил скриншот, где рядом открыто два шрифта разных версий, там наглядно показано, что высота символов разная. Это можно увидеть, если поставить линейку. Это как минимум говорит о том, что шрифты разные. Конечно, я не являюсь специалистом в этом, но пытаюсь хоть как-то попытаться помочь вам разобраться в причине этой проблемы. Чем больше информации - тем проще в "расследовании".

Я нашел решение проблемы - откат назад системы и восстановление прежней версии шрифта. Но найдут ли остальные пользователи ваших продуктов это решение? Надеюсь, что вы передадите это сообщение дальше и удастся разобраться в причинах возникновения ситуации. Ведь по факту мы имеем ситуацию, что после апдейта до 2020.1 у меня поехал шрифт, вот и вся история.

P.S. Новая версия шрифта была создана 6 апреля. Как думаете, есть вероятность, что там что-то не так?

В pyCharm 2020.1 и на Маке и на Линуксе изменился шрифт. Выглядит странно.

Тоже возникла проблема со шрифтами после обновления до 2020.1. Пробовал установить старую версию шрифта 1.0.1 (ничего не поменялось), попробовал и Menlo установить (тоже без результата). По ощущениям сломался рендеринг вообще любых шрифтов в самом редакторе (потому что в интерфейсе phpstorm они отображаются нормально.

Пользоваться в таком виде нереально - вытекают глаза.

Similar issue I just noticed in ubuntu 18 - no reboot - just a standard update-in-place via the jetbrains updater - came back to the font looking stretched. search brought me here. Thought I was crazy!

edit: found the old fonts from before the update and copy/pasted them over place of the new ones and all is well - the new fonts are not good - screenshot in a moment

I also have this problem. I have not tried installing the old version of the font, but have switched to consolas in the mean time.

The first thing I noticed was that I had much less lines of code on my screen, the font was stretched vertically and did not look pleasing at all. It looked so bad that the first thing I did in 2020.1 was to change the font. It is obviously a problem with the font, as other fonts work as they should and look good/okay regardless of text size and line spacing.

I am now on Consolas with size 13 and line height 1.2, which looks great on a 2560x1440 resolution monitor.

Elena, is there any news about this issue, can I safely update my IDE to the latest version?

Changing the font size from 13 to 12 helped. I have this problem on two different Windows 10 machines. On my Ubuntu it looks fine with font size 13.

Please try the latest version from https://github.com/JetBrains/JetBrainsMono/releases . See if NL variant solves the problem.

В версии 1.0.3  изменен алгоритм хинтинга. Это значит, что на Linux и Windows машинах округление высоты стало в большую сторону. Короче, буквы в некоторых размерах стали выше. Кому-то это не нравится, кому-то нравится. В любом случае это не будет пока меняться. Также в 1.0.3 на машинах без HiDPI увеличилась высота строки. Это следствие добавления поддержки BoxDrawing качественная имплементация которого потребовала этого. Также это поможет с добавлением языков. Некоторые из них требуют сложной, составной диакритики, поэтому пустое место между строчками очень ценно. Я понимаю, что высота строки очень важная метрика для наших пользователей и стараюсь не увеличивать её больше необходимого, но тут это необходимо.

Upgrading to 1.0.5 fixed the issue (even without switching to NL variant). It still looks slightly different, but much, much better than on screenshots above. :)

UPDATE: after I installed Material plugin, font again become stretched, switching to NL variant fixed this.

Happened to me while moving to PyCharm Proffesional 2020.3.

Solved it by downloading the font "font-jetbrains-mono-nerd-font".

Follow the instruction here: https://github.com/JetBrains/JetBrainsMono but download the nerd font and not the default.

On macOS: brew install --cask font-jetbrains-mono-nerd-font
