Incredibly slow performance on Catalina / TypeScript

Hi there,

I'm unsure whether this is a Catalina problem (I suspect it is, as my machine has fans on a LOT and all apps seem to suffer intermittent slowdowns) but I'm finding performance in many files, especially TypeScript files is slow to the point of being almost unusable.

Even just simple typing of a function name will cause fans to come on, and typing will hang for 1 - 2 seconds before everything catches up.

Type again, and the process starts again.

I'm working almost exclusively with the following apps open:

  • PHPStorm (TypeScript & Vue)
  • Chrome (Canary and normal)
  • Source Tree
  • Slack
  • iTerm

As mentioned, I suspect something has gone wrong with the OS and I'm considering a fresh install, but TypeScript in PHPStorm seems to be a specific case where things go very wrong indeed.

I've invalidated caches in both PHPStorm and OSX user folders, but no improvement.

Happy to post logs if you tell me how to.

Thanks,

Dave

This is a community forum, troubleshooting performance issues within a forum thread is not the best way to go.
First of all, please upgrade to the most recent Catalina security patch, we've had a lot of freezing issues because of a faulty previous one.
If you are using the latest patch already, please submit the logs (Help | Collect Logs and Diagnostic Data) within a support ticket. The topic description also could help.

Thanks! I'll do that

I am having the same problem after upgrading MacOS from Sierra=>Catalina. Have you found the source and fix to the problem?
