Webstorm won't open files in new tab

Webstorm opens files in the same tab, not in a new tab. Expected behavior is that files would open in a new tab, unless the tab limit is reached (currently have my tab limit set to 15). Webstorm version 2021.2 Mac OS Big Sur 11.5.

Please check the Open declaration source in the same tab option value, is it enabled? Must be https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/IDEA-255328

I have experienced this issue when using Go to File… on PyCharm 2023.3 as well. Thank you for sharing this resolution.

Things that I tried that did not work:

  • Enabling/Disabling Enable preview tab
  • Enabling/Disabling When navigating to a file, prefer selecting existing tab in inactive split pane

What did work:

  • Disabling Open declaration source in the same tab
