How to disable welcome screen

There is no such option. 

You can use JetBrains Toolbox to open a project without "Recent projects" startup screen in IntelliJ IDEA

This is a must have feature,  Konstantin Annikov can you please tell me which version of intellij this was still present so I can revert back to it?

Thanks for the suggestion, but I have enabled this option and it doesn't do anything. I always get the Welcome screen.

How do you close IntelliJ IDEA? Via the "Quit IntelliJ IDEA" button, or by closing every project until the welcome screen appears?

May you record a screencast? 

I let it shut down itself when the computer turns off, not sure if this is a good practice. Not sure where's quit intellij idea button. Could  you post steps to get to this button?

I just checked and IntelliJ IDEA reopens the closed project on startup after "File | Exit"

Exiting with OS shutdown is not the best solution, as caches could be corrupted in the process, and IDE will reindex the project again.

For me, it stopped working.  I'm using 2022.3.1.

Even if I terminate IDEA with File|Exit (with 3 open projects), it shows the welcome screen when I run it again.

I assigned the 3 projects to a new group, «Current», so I can open the entire group in the welcome screen, but still, the operation is clumsy in comparison with earlier when I just had to click IDEA on the task bar.

Hello, Dominik Wezel. Is it possible for you to update the IDE to the latest available release 2024.2.3 and check again? On my side, the problem is not reproducible on Windows and macOS.

I decided to hold on to a 2022 version, because the later versions (which I'm still confronted with in a customer's office) show signs of over-engineering.

But anyway, the problem disappeared as it popped up — which is a bit puzzling of course, but works for me.  I'm not going to bust ghosts though, for lack of time. 😉😜
