What kind of comment from JetBrains are you looking for?

The comment I am looking for is one that supports why a company has to adapt to a paid IDE.
In other words. Why does the company need to take IntelliJ when there are so many free options out there that work great?

Otherwise, you could ask why does IntelliJ exist if eclipse already exists?

Show this to your boss: https://www.jetbrains.com/lp/intellijidea-forrester-tei/. Explain that you will be more productive with IntelliJ IDEA, your code would have less errors and the IDE price will pay off really quickly.

Don't forget about the technical support. With IntelliJ IDEA you will get replies within minutes/hours like yo do now. When using Eclipse, you are on your own to resolve any IDE problems and replies from the community may take days/weeks or you will never receive help depending on the problem you have.

I just got the answer from a committee of experts from my company. The answer is a resounding "no".

The difference of continents is abysmal.
Looks like I'll stick with Eclipse. Now that I was starting to get the hang of IntelliJ.

I don't think it's a country difference. It's the attitude of some companies to the tools used by the developers. Some companies would buy the best tools/hardware knowing that it will pay off in the future, others will try to save $ on small things eventually loosing $$$$ because of that.

@Drakgoku Well, the IT job market, especially in the post-covid time, is so global, that you are not bound to work for a stupid local employer who does not buy their employees the tool their need. Change the company! You may easily work from home for a company anywhere in the worlds, but at least anywhere in EU or in Spain! And you may significantly increase your salary.

Working for an employer who does not buy me a laptop memory, good monitor or a good development tools is just pain in the ass.

On the other side, it is correct that your employer asks you to argue in favor for tools which you want to get. It should be your own arguments, not the PR bullshit from the manufacturer, they will always describe their product as the Best Possible Under The Sun. So if I were expected to pay you the license, I would like to here from you why you want the tool.
