I ran into the same issue today. I've created a ticket and also posted a workaround there.I'm surprised with how few people reported this (well, I somehow only ran into this first time myself…).

It's weird, but I've even not found anything like that in the bugtracker.I've just created "PY-48700 highlight incorrect type references in docstring" to fill this gap.

The issue in vmprof itself (mentioned by Stephen Rigden) is currenly fixed. And it works from the terminal. However, PyCharm's integration is still broken, in particular, take a looks at this.
