You can modify C++ code to make it pass debug options (-Xdebug etc.) to a JVM, and then use Remote debug configuration to connect to it.

No, but that shouldn't be hard.Just create run/debug configuration (Run | Edit Configurations | [+] | Remote), and IDEA will suggest you debugging options to pass to JVM.

Please delete (or rename) ~/.IntelliJIdea11/system/ directory and try to start IDEA. If it hang again please attach logs.

Dennis, are you sure you've deleted the directory? In your case it should be ~/.IdeaIC11/system (if you hadn't modified default location).

Thank you.So, the reason is that your filesystem root lacks read permission. We'll fix the exception but the file tree may remain empty anyway.
