Update: as I have to have this working,  I've now downloaded 2017.3 and re-installed it, retaining old settings etc & it now works. Annoying that I've had to do this.

Thanks for the suggestion, much appreciated :-)Unfortunately we have a lot of legacy code & it would be really helpful if Array was accepted (which is valid PHP AFAIK).I'll look at raising an issue...
