Everything works fine under the Jetbrains Runtine, by JDK8 dev builds I mean those from jdk8.java.net/download.html - which soon become the released JDKs. I should try with a final release as well....

Good to know - I suspect it may be some strange combination of plugins as Idea will start fine with a project closed, but the moment I open a project BOOM.

I note the OSS Community Git repository no longer even compiles - and hasn't for the last week ;( At least according to my Jenkins job. Unless the build process has changed...
