I assuming you are not exactly taking user and password and passing as is. The actual Basic Auth requires to be put in the format of user:password and then Base64 encoded and then passed the server...

How can I do HTTP basic auth? In VS Code at least you can time the raw version with user and password separated by a space. It doesn't seem to work here
