Tried this on OSX. I have an airport built in that doesn't get an IP address, however even after I turn it off, Idea 1101 (and 1104) still won't start. Works with 1094 though.

No, the behavior is wrong. There were no special characters in the original string - there shouldn't be any in the final string unless I ask for them. There mere fact that I have to go behind Idea ...

I would be more inclined to suggest that it paste the text as normal since that is what every application EXCEPT Idea does and add an intention for strings that span multiple lines such that you ca...

The original string starts off as one REALLY long line. IntelliJ breaks it up in this manner.

I have a Powerbook 1.25 Ghz and don't have any complaints with JDK1.4.2. I use the Aqua L&F and life is good. Its still slower than the performance I can get off my Windows boxen.
