I'm using a Mac if that matters. Maybe it is picking up and old version of logback in my .m2 directory? I'll try deleting them.

Yes reloading the Maven project fixed the problem. Thanks for replkying. I don't think I should have to do that when I add an additional dependency on occasion

Ok. I figured out I have to reload Maven periodically and these flagged dependency “not found”   errors clear up. I do not think it should be necessary to do that.But another problem I have is that...
