I had to hit that button with the two little antennae sticking out.  That solved the problem.

Updated: just downloaded pycharm 2017.3 - still not working. With Pycharm when I hit command option + it would increase the screen size.  Now it does not do anything.  Is there something in my sett...

Update: I saw that you could add keyboard abbreviations of your own, but oddly I put in the keyboard short I wished for and it just expanded one part, it did not use expand recursively.
