Okay, this would appear to be a problem with certain versions of node ? I was using 18.16.0 that had this problem, but reverted back to 16.13.1 and problem no more.

Not sure exactly if this is what you're asking, but you can configure intellij's terminal to use the git bash shell? I'm assuming you must be on windows? should be something like this: if so.
