This feature is lacking in IntelliJ unfortunately. I found this solution, which is a bit complex, but also pretty nifty. It's for python but should be modifiable to work similarly for Perl

nvm, found it, this is solved via an Advanced Setting in version 2025.2 (not released yet).https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/IJPL-171659/VCS-Option-to-show-branch-name-for-all-projects
