Unable to download JDBC drivers drivers in restricted environment

Question

How can JDBC database drivers be made available in an IDE with the database plugin installed in a restricted environment?

Answer

When creating a data source, JDBC drivers are downloaded and stored in the system directory. If a user does not have permission to write to this directory, database driver downloads may fail. There are several solutions:

Change the system directory:

Configure the IDE to use a different system directory that users have write access to.

Manual driver installation:

Download the required JDBC drivers manually and add them via Custom JAR in the Drivers section. Distribute the JAR files to each computer, then configure the IDE to use the local copies. This method is suitable for a small number of workstations but may not scale for many computers.

Upcoming central repository feature:

JetBrains is developing a feature that will allow specifying a local repository for driver jars, enabling centralized driver management. Please upvote and follow this feature to stay updated on the progress.
