Mr. Bill Hughes

1.  immediate problem - product will not update, it says current user not authorized to update and to find an authorized user;  I am the ONLY USER.

2.  ONGOING PROBLEM -  I have over 20+ years of IT experience in IBM mainframe, windows and UNIX/LINUX environments and I regret buying the product (DataGrip).  DataGrip is one of the most confusing pieces of shit I have ever had the misfortune to use.  The navigation processes must have been created by someone using LSD.  Please do your company and the world a favor and fire the Jackass responsible.

Hello, Mr. Bill Hughes!

Can you please describe what particular thing you disliked? We want to improve user experience, but for now it's completely unclear what issues did you have with navigation in DataGrip.

I will appreciate your response.

Hi,

What version you're trying to update? Do you have any errors in IDE log file?

Thank you.

Maxim;  I suggest you study the navigation and functionality of HeideSql, RazorSql and pgAdmin 3 to name a few.  Navigation should be a smooth logical process driven from the drop down menus, not one that is partially dependent on obscure unlabeled buttons in the corners of the screen.  Use logical labels that state the function of the navigation i.e., "Create database", "Create Table" and so on.  There should be not mysteries, surprises or guesswork.  If you wind up needing a complex tutorial to make try to make sense of the product you FUCKED UP!

Vasily; DAtaGrip version 2017.1.5 running under Ubuntu Linux version 16.04 LTS on a Dell with 12 Gbyte RAM.  There are errors in the idea.log file.  If you send me your email address I will try to send the file to you.

Can I ask you for examples? Which particular place in navigation is unclear and where are mysteries, surprises and guesswork?

Thanks!

Maxim; It is not my job to debug your software.  If you or your peers cannot or will not determine what is a clearcut process then you should find another line of work.  To find what is confusing all you have to do is look.  I suggest you find the least experienced person in your shop or a cab driver off the street and ask them to navigate DataGrip and LISTEN to what they tell you.  I gave you examples of what your process should look like - did you look?  REMEMBER:  "You can

lead a Jackass to Logic, but you cannot make his THINK".

I want to add: if you're new to our tool, please watch this introductory video where the basics of navigation are described as well. Perhaps, it'll become more clear for you.

Maxim;  Thank you for the tutorial link.  It was informative for what it was but I suggest developing a tutorial that begins with establishing a database connection and continues through creating a database and tables.  As to my update issues:  Datagrip did update successfully prior to the recent update failure.  To attempt to

resolve this I am going to delete my current copy of DataGrip and reinstall.  After watching the tutorial I think I may have a corrupted downloaded version.  In my current version the small search panel has no exit button, thus the only way to exit the search window is to exit Datagrip.  Does your install process use a checksum routine to verify the integrity of the files downloaded, extracted and installed?  If so where is it located and can I view it?

@William R Hughes Hi,

> a tutorial that begins with establishing a database connection and continues through creating a database and tables
Refer to our help: https://www.jetbrains.com/help/datagrip/2017.2/connecting-to-a-database.html

> After watching the tutorial I think I may have a corrupted downloaded version.
Do you have any IDE logs to help us to find out the root cause of your problem?

> In my current version the small search panel has no exit button
Could you provide a screenshot? Maybe there is a hotkey or the way to exit.

> Does your install process use a checksum routine to verify ...
https://www.jetbrains.com/datagrip/download/download-thanks.html there is  SHA-256 checksum link.

Thank you.
