Python console acting up

I am trying to use Pycharm Community Edition 4.0.4 with Python27. I have checked my project interpreter in the settings and it shows (correctly) the folder path containing my python 27 executable. Unfortunately every time I type something in the built-in console, even if it's just one letter, I get an error message about "Python.exe stopped working". The command seems to work fine but this error window keeps popping up which is highly distracting.

What can I do to stop this? Thanks
