Folders and Apps shortcuts on Desktop disappear after accidentally creating Desktop directory and then deleting it.
Answered
When I tried to create a new project, I wanted to store it on a folder that located on my desktop. In the "Select file project directory" window, I found that there was no Desktop directory available so right-clicked then clicked on the Desktop directory button but it appeared in an unexpected folder. I tried to delete it by right-clicking on the Desktop section > Delete, the directory couldn't be removed then I realized all my folders and some apps shorcuts disappeared from my desktop.
What have I done wrong? Please help!
I use IntelliJ IDEA 2017 2.2 on Windows 10 Pro x64.

You can create the projects in the existing desktop directory, you don't need to add a new Desktop directory:
Making a project directly in Desktop is not recommended, so you should normally add a new directory under Desktop where the project will be stored:
And of course you can delete this project directory later if needed. Don't delete Desktop directory itself.
