IntelliJ IDEA Ultimate is extremly slow on mac M1

I'm using Mac Air M1 and trying to run IntelliJ Ultimate.

I've read some issues on JetBrains YouTrack and it seems that a lot of people are pretty satisfied with their experience. So, I think something is wrong with my environment and I can't find out what 

Steps I've done:

  1. Rebooted my Mac

  2. Invalidated Caches & Restarted IDE

  3. Reinstalled IntelliJ

  4. Deleted "Caches" and "Application Support/JetBrains" directories and then reinstalled IDE

  5. Checked if I'm using a default Java Runtime version

  6. Checked if I'm using Intel version of IDE

  7. Disabled Antialiasing

  8. Closed "heavy" apps like Google Chrome

  9. Installed Atom Material Icons plugin

  10. Downloaded prebuilt shared indexes

  11. Modified .vmoptions and added

-Dsun.java2d.opengl=true
-Dsun.java2d.opengl.fbobject=false

  1. Disabled Smooth scrolling

  2. I'm not using external display, mac is connected to power outlet

Could you please record a CPU snapshot when you experience significant slowness in your IDE (for couple of minutes), and upload it here: https://uploads.jetbrains.com, for more in depth analysis. Just provide the uploaded file ID after uploading.

Also, I see you are using an older version of IntelliJ (2022.1). Lots of performance problems and slowness issues were fixed in the newer versions. Your issues could have been already resolved in the meantime. If possible, please update to the latest release 2023.1.2: https://www.jetbrains.com/idea/download

I installed intelliJ ultimate  2023.2.2 Build #IU-232.9921.47 on a new mac M1. The user interface is slower than on Mac intel, the windows are slow to fill, slow to open. It is not really a problem for me for the moment. Maybe rosetta is heavily used for the user interface, which could explain this.

Well this is really true at first launch of intellij, during the day the user interface is quicker.

Hello, Riccardo Cohen. Could you please check if there is any difference if you increase the memory heap size as described in this instruction? If not, please, share the IDE logs (Help | Collect Logs and Diagnostic Data) via the JetBrains Uploads service and write the ID you receive here - I want to check if there are any errors reported in the log.

Problem completely solved : I downloaded the “apple silicon” version, with the new 2023.2.3 (I didn't see this before).

Now it runs very fast since the first opening.
