How do I get rid of the light bulb that shows up on the left when I'm trying to select a line?

When I try to select a line of text starting from the left there is an annoying light bulb that pops up and I have to move the mouse to get rid of it.  How do I get rid of that thing?  It makes it difficult to select text and I've never found that it did anything actually useful.
