Where does IntelliJ get the logs and diagnostic data?
Hi all,
I am curious. Where does IntelliJ get the logs and diagnostic data? My IntelliJ quit working. All I saw was the Welcome screen. It wouldn't open any existing project. I wasn't thinking, so removed the list of existing projects that I had. After that, I tried to open the project using the Open button, but that button didn't do anything at all. I found a few posts about this, applied the solution but it still wouldn't work. I then realized it's not just the Open button. Even the Import Settings link wouldn't do anything, neither did the code style/import scheme.
I finally reinstalled the software. Before that I had removed everything in appData/roaming/JetBrains. Unfortunately the problem didn't go away, so I generated the logs and diagnostic data and sent to support. Since there's nothing else I can do, I open the zip file to see what's in there. Surprisingly it has information about my projects, and thread dumps from the last. Where did IntelliJ get those?
Thanks,
Wayne

I found it. It's in appData/Local/JetBrains/IntelliJIdea2023.1/log.
Finally it's working again. I had to remove appData/Local/JetBrains and appData/roaming/JetBrains, then reinstall.
