Debugger taking 5-10 seconds after build to start up (MacOS Sierra)

Whenever I run the debugger, it hangs after making the project for up to 10 seconds before starting up. This is without any breakpoints set.

This has only begun happening since I upgraded to MacOs Sierra a few weeks ago so that might be related.

Are there any suggested solutions or any way for me to see what processes IntelliJ is running while trying to start the debugger?
