On Ubuntu 8.10, RubyMine goes missing on the task bar, but still runs

I've noticed a few times that after RubyMine (both 784 and 802 build) runs for a while on my Gnome (Ubuntu 8.10) destkop, the enty in the task bar goes missing.  The application is still running though and I can switch to it with ALT + Tab.  Largely cosmetic, but a slight bit annoying to not see if the app is still running and the window manager knows about it.

Hello Wolfram,

I've noticed a few times that after RubyMine (both 784 and 802 build) runs for a while on my Gnome (Ubuntu 8.10) destkop, the enty in the task bar goes missing.  The application is still running though and I can switch to it with ALT + Tab.  Largely cosmetic, but a slight bit annoying to not see if the app is still running and the window manager knows about it.

What RubyMine build do you use and what Java version is installed on your Ubuntu box?
Works fine for me on Ubuntu 8.10 and 9.04(dev version) with Sun JDK 1.6_12 installed.

Thanks,
Oleg

It's not happened since build 802.

I'm using Ubuntu 8.10 64 bit
$> java -version
java version "1.6.0_10"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_10-b33)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 11.0-b15, mixed mode)

Could you please attach screenshot to clarify the situation, because I was not able to reproduce it?

And could you please attach RubyMine log?
Logs are stored in floder ~/RubyMine10/system/logs

Confirming that the issue still exists on Ubuntu 9.10, Java 1.6.0_15 and RubyMine 2.0.1.

I'm rather certain that the issue is connected to the opening of multiple projects in separate RubyMine windows.

Has there been any progress getting to the cause of this?

After some absense from this issue, I still see this issue.  This reproduces sometimes when I have multiple project windows open.  Here is how I can reproduce this 50% of the time:

1. Lunch Rubymine -- it'll open to the last project opened.
2. From File dialog -> Reopen -- open another project.
3. A dialog box will come up asking if the project should be opened in this or a new window.
4. Choose New Window.
5. Notice that the task bar has only one entry.

This has happened since RubyMine 1.x and is unchanged through the latest build, 2.0.2.

My system runs Ubuntu 8.10 64bit. with Sun 64bit Java version "1.6.0_16" build 1.6.0_16-b01

This is still not consistent behavior and I don't have a screenshot right now, as it's not happening at the moment.

Also confirming that the issue still exists.

Most of our developers have started to only use one RubyMine window ever in order to keep it in the task bar.

This also happens with Idea. After a while the task diasappears from the task bar. If you minimize Idea window, it will show up in the task bar. But will soon disappear again.

It's not a big deal. So I didn't bother to reproduce it. This problem has been around for a while. I am pretty sure it's been happening on Idea 8 and Ubuntu 9.4 and is happening now with Idea 9.0.3 and Ubuntu 10.4. Might be some Java - Gnome/Compiz clash.
