If I'm looking at the Problems view, shouldn't it highlight errors in other files that are caused by things I'm doing in the current one? Is that how it works?

It is if you enable automatic make in the settings.
Yeah, tried that. But it only realises there is an error when I click on the file that should be flagged.
Okay, as far as I can tell, method signature changes don't trigger a compilation.
