How can I protect the configuration of my current IntelliJ when I try 10.5

You can configure the IDE where to keep the settings. So, you can do the following:

1. Download target build as an archive (e.g. tar.gz);
2. Unpack it;
3. Go to '$UNPACKED_ROOT/bin' directory;
4. Customize values of the following properties at '$UNPACKED_ROOT/bin/idea.properties' file: 'idea.config.path', 'idea.system.path', 'idea.plugins.path';

E.g. my 'idea.properties' for such temporary builds contains the following:

# path to IDEA config folder
idea.config.path=config-local/config

# path to IDEA system folder
idea.system.path=config-local/system

# path to user installed plugins folder
idea.plugins.path=config-local/config/plugins

Hello Niels,

You can specify a different path to config and system directories in bin\idea.properties
under the IDEA installation directory.

I like to give 10.5 a try, but I suspect, that it will screw up the
configuration of my production 10.0.2.

How can I protect the .IntelliJIdea10 of my production IntelliJ or how
can I force 10.5 to use an other directory?
