On startup IDEA freezes for 30 sec with extremely heavy disk activity
After "scanning files" dialog is closed, idea starts hitting HDD very hard
and stays frozen for 30-40 seconds even on tiny projects (and I have very
fast RAID). It seems to happen only first time you open idea on a particular
day. subsequent startups are normal
Has anyone experienced it?
Could it be local VCS cleanup? It would not make sense though because the
freeze seems to be the same on tiny project and on large project
All idea work directories and idea itself are excuded from antivirus

If you're running windows, try running Process Monitor during the
problem period and getting a log of file accesses - might give a clue to
what is the problem.

thousands of entries like this for 40 seconds or so.
Note large and uniform size of the red chunk 64K and no file path just D:
What could it be reading?
Thanks,

Someone here has the exact same problem and he is becoming very frustrated
as his machine isnt a great spec and the delay is up to 3-4 minutes.
Again FileMon reports large Disk Reads from D:

I am actually wondering what the common properties could be between your
disk and his?
His D: is compressed and his project and all the cache, source and build
files are all located on this drive but not at the root.
I thought about entering a defect on this but without any concrete data I am
not sure what they can do.

I'm getting the same problem every now and them. It might be related to these:
http://www.jetbrains.net/jira/browse/IDEA-14530
http://www.intellij.net/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=271855&tstart=15
Please, provide CPU snapshot, it is hard to diagnose the problem
