EAP 6755 questions/comments

Hello Taras!

Breadcrumbs UI which is switched on by defining "idea.breadcrumbs" is
experimental. The final Selena release will contain only one single UI
for breadcrumbs component. We just looking for feedback on both UIs to
understand which one is more suitable.

Are there plans to add more functionality to the breadcrumbs? Like a context menu of some sort when you click on them? Dunno what would be useful here actually.

I would like to have an option to turn them off alltogether :)

Although I "basically" liked the "earlier" button-style breadcrumbs look
more, the new one is IMO more readable, not yet sure why. Why not
include both styles?
The one thing really missing from breadcrumbs is some sort of "back"
(after jumping to outer element via the breadcrumbs-navbar), was
mentioned earlier I think.

First, both of the UIs in 6755 are an improvement over the one in 6733.
They are not as distracting and bright as the implementation of previous EAP.

I think the "block" one is better:
-it's clearer/sharper, the other one contains a lot of ">,<" noise.
-more space efficient

Since it has recognition of id/class attributes, I assume that the main purpose
of this feature is to provide context for editing HTML, correct?

I think I do understand what you're trying to achieve, but still I want to
be able to turn it off, because:
-it does not add as much value for some XML formats which do not have the
deep nesting of HTML/JSP (for example spring context files)
-I like my editor UI minimalistic

So, I'm not saying remove it, but allow me to enable/disable it :)

I definitely preferred the font block breadcrumbs had in the previous build. Now it's monospaced, too large, and (ugly!) has no left-right indent from the block edge. Come on, make it readable :)

Hello Andrew.

The font is taken from the editor and scaled down for a 1 position (and
it was a default Dialog font before). Breadcrumbs looks pretty nice on
my mac and on a PCs around. Could you send us a screenshot?

yep, you're right, we just tried to make it less annoying and compact by
removing unwanted spaces and paddings.

yes, personally I think it's not so useful in XML as in HTML/etc. But it
can be - we could provide a XPath, for example. We'll think about.

Sure. I've attached 2 - one depicting the problem. And it's really hard to read the breadcrumbs, especially when something starts with 'i', e.g. 'inbound-router'. Then, the text feels very not-in-place, pressed from all sides of the block.

And no, I never modified font defaults, my current settings on the other screenshot.

I'm absolutely fine with new colors, they are much more pale and do not distract, while still readable.

This is under WinXP + JDK 6.
