OT: ruby on rails
OFFTOPIC:
I think IDEA as plain Java IDE lacks some polish in the details, because much manpower is put into J2EE and other things.
Maybe it is not so easy to decide if Jetbrains (or any
other company) should put all its effort into the best
possible Java IDE... (?)
What if there was an IDEA for ruby, for example?
Jetbrains decided to rather move into direction C#...
I would be interested in EAPers opinion in Ruby vs Java,
and J2EE vs ruby on rails. Yes, the latter is very simple,
that's the sexy part of it... ;)

I would love a ruby ide with refactorings. However I am not sure the market is there and how much dilution such an language support would cause. Other companies have made their "scripting language" support generic enough to support all sort of dynamic type languages (javascript, perl, python, ruby...). Maybe that would a way to capture enough return for the investment...

As far as I know, the answer to all your wishes will be the Jetbrains MPS.
Rob Harwood (JetBrains) promissed us that the article about MPS:
"has gotten out of the 'delayed' state, and is now in the final stages of
review and will be published very soon"
Ahmed.
What does MPS stands for? Miracle Plugin System? -
Meta Programming System.
Search the j.i.community news for MPS in the Subject.
Here is an interview about it:
Ahmed.
You can look at this thread:
"What's the next big thing!!!"
http://www.intellij.net/forums/thread.jsp?forum=27&thread=107108&message=3375459&q=6e65787420626967207468696e67#3375459
Which I started as a general conversation and got all consumed by MPS and LOP discussions.

Very very soon. The onBoard team is making final corrections to the
articles and the magazine will be published as soon as it's done.
And yes, MPS would solve these problems very well. Unfortunately, it
will be some time before it is at that level. We are still in the
research stage. The good news is that we are making steady progress. A
major feature, template generation, has finished being bootstrapped just
a couple of days ago. Sergey is hoping to EAP in a couple of months, but
of course, no guarantees.
