Import from competition
Hi there,
As it's often the case with commercial products, one way to attract new
users (and also keep old ones happy :) is to facilitate an easy migration
from and to competing products. Now that we have modules support, one would
think that being able to map Eclipse projects to IDEA's format should be a
fairly easy task.
Are there any plans to offer this kind of import functionality? I found
myself forced to do this kind of mapping manually (everything is
standardized on WSAD here, only two IDEA users), but apart from that I think
a sales pitch would be a much easier task if one would be able to import an
Eclipse project and go, as opposed to wasting so much time
creating/replicating a project. At least when trying to show Eclipse users
what they're missing. :)
Thx,
Andrei

Is this necessary? It takes like 30 seconds to set-up a project now.

Yeah, but it might take hours (and I'm not kidding here) to replicate an
Eclipse project with all the dependencies between the modules and libraries
and all the stuff involved. I was talking about importing an existing
project, not creating a blank new one.
The tough part is... Well, I'm not going to explain the whole problem here,
I was just asking if there's hope to have an option to import projects from
IDEA's main competitor.

Fair enough. However, I would argue that the main competition is actually
JBuilder. It's hard to compete with a free product when you are not free
(even if it is almost free).
It's easier to get a little money out of someone who is used to paying a lot
than it is to get a little money out of someone who is used to paying
nothing.
